Pirates are selling cheap, live TV and some Canadians are signing up

The offers sound too good to be true: pay a small monthly fee and get access to thousands of live TV channels from across the globe, offering everything from sports to entertainment. “Stop paying high prices for cable,” touts one ad on Kijiji, offering more than 500 TV channels for a monthly $20 subscription.

Bell, Rogers, Quebecor advance in piracy lawsuit against the operator of a Montreal website

Canadian cable and media giants won a small victory in their larger war against pirated content this week when a panel of federal judges backed their appeal in a legal battle against the Montreal-based operator of a website that makes it easier to stream video online.

Campaign ramps up to block websites accused of piracy

There’s a push by mainstream media to block websites accused of piracy but some critics are calling it censorship. OpenMedia is reporting a month-long ‘Don’t Censor Canada‘ campaign has already seen 50,000 people voice concerns with the CRTC, which is accepting comments until March 29th.

My Box rejects Sky TV piracy accusation

Sky Television has taken My Box to court over allegations that the Hamilton-based streaming service lied to its customers about being a legal service. My Box sells a decoder with pre-loaded apps that gives customers access to Sky TV channels as well as hundreds of international channels for a one-off fee of $269.
