Telegram Piracy

Telegram Piracy

Telegram piracy has now become popular for users to watch pirated movies. Although watching pirated movies in telegram is completely in the category of crime, piracy in telegram is rising.

Telegram Piracy in India

Telegram competes with WhatsApp as one of the most secure chatting apps. Just as WhatsApp it is considered one of the most secure chatting and messaging apps. But that is not the only reason Telegram is becoming popular. Online piracy has become a huge problem in Telegram on this day.

Online piracy has taken a new mode in Telegram. Telegram piracy has become a new channel for online piracy. Pirate movies, TV series are being shared casually in chats and messages to be watched and downloaded. This is harming the filmmakers and creators of the contents.

India being one of the biggest markets is seeing a surge in Telegram piracy. Having one of the biggest movie industries in the world, contents get pirated faster and very frequently, hurting the industry.

Italy takes on Telegram Piracy

The Italian authorities have closed 545 channels on different topics:

  • Pirate IPTV
  • Streaming
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers
  • eBooks

Physical operations were also carried out in five  (Lombardy, Piemonte, Veneto, Emilia Romagna and Campania) regions. Eight channel managers are suspected of copyright infringement and criminal offenses.

The targeted Telegram channels allegedly had over 430,000 users who joined for free but were exploited by the administrators in other ways.

The initial monetization strategy involved administrators putting affiliate links directing visitors to e-commerce websites into their channels. A portion of the sales made after clicking on these links and buying the items went back to the administrators. The second technique is referred to as “sponsorship,” in which commercial banners were posted on the channels that were purportedly violating the law in return for payment from the advertiser. The interconnectedness of the channels the Italian police targeted is demonstrated by information pertaining to these sponsorship arrangements that is still available online.

Telegram ordered reveal details of pirates

Via TorrentFreak reports, The Delhi High Court in India has mandated that Telegram provide the personal data of users who share protected content on the app. Telegram official policies state, copyrighted content cannot be shared on Telegram, and channels that include pirated content are routinely removed. Problem is that replacement channels are opened up soon after the channels are closed.

Telegram declined to give the complainants more information about those who disseminated the protected content. By using this information, they hoped to punish the violators and deter others from using Telegram to distribute illegal content in the future. One of Telegram’s defenses was that user data was housed in Singapore, where privacy regulations forbade its decryption.

But the court was not convinced by this argument. The court also said it would not violate Singaporian laws, if personal details were needed for investigations.
